Victoria's Own Shelby Britten Named Chick-fil-A Student-Athlete of the Month presented by Sodexo

Newberry College women's basketball player Shelby Britten has been named the Chick-fil-A Student-Athlete of the Month presented by Sodexo for January 2017, as announced by the athletic department.

Britten, a sophomore from Shepparton, Victoria, Australia, notched double digits in seven of Newberry's eight games in the month.

In the eight January games, Britten averaged 14.0 points per game, 5.3 assists per game, and 2.9 rebounds per game.

She recorded a career-high 21 points vs. the Catawba Indians on January 18th. Britten also had four games on the month with at least seven assists. She sits at 2nd in the South Atlantic Conference with 100 assists on the season.

Britten also went the whole month only missing one free throw. The guard shot 94.7 percent from the foul stripe connecting on 18-of-19 attempts.

Shelby leads the team averaging 35.5 minutes per game, which included playing all 45 minutes in the Jan. 28 overtime game vs. Anderson. She is second in the SAC in minutes played. Britten has started all 21 games this season for the Wolves.


Britten is a Psychology major and holds a 3.72 grade point average.

The award will be given every month and honor one Newberry College student-athlete for his or her on-field performance, academic achievement and community involvement. The award recipient will be honored on the Chick-fil-A Newberry College Student-Athlete of the Month presented by Sodexo wall in Eleazer Arena.
