Trung Duong named Chick-fil-A of Ballentine Student-Athlete of the Month for December

Newberry College wrestler Trung Duong has been named the Chick-fil-A of Ballentine Newberry College Student-Athlete of the Month for December 2015, as announced by the athletic department.

Duong, a junior from Forest, Va., was named All-Academic Second Team by the Division II Wrestling Coaches' Association in 2015 and continued his excellent work in the classroom with a perfect 4.00 grade point average in the fall semester. He has a cumulative GPA of 3.77 while majoring in English.

He also excelled on the mat, moving up to third in the Super Region II rankings at 125 lbs. He placed sixth at the Midwest Classic, went 4-0 at the Newberry Duals and went 7-3 overall in December. He has twice won Super Region II Wrestler of the Week honors this year and has an overall record of 19-8 with four wins by fall and six wins by major decision.

The Chick-fil-A Ballentine Newberry College Student-Athlete of the Month award will be given every month and honor one Newberry College student-athlete for their athletic performance, academic achievement and community involvement. The award recipient will be honored on the new Chick-fil-A Newberry College Student-Athlete of the Month wall in Eleazer Arena as well as at the Newberry College Wolfies award show in April.
