Students Inducted as Charter Members of the SC Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon Honor Society

2015 Apr 9

Newberry College student Nicole Teal of Inman, SC, was inducted as a charter member of Pi Mu Epsilon, an organization dedicated to promoting scholarly activity in mathematics among students in academic institutions.

The national mathematics honor society installed Newberry College as its South Carolina Theta Chapter on March 25. A Pi Mu Epsilon chapter is chartered only at academic institutions that meet the organization's standard of excellence in all academic areas, particularly in mathematics and science.

"The installation of the South Carolina Theta Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon National Mathematics Honor Society at Newberry College will further help our math majors," said associate professor of Mathematics Naser Al-Hasan. "This will allow students to develop, acquire and demonstrate leadership in their field with a clear understanding of the impact of their scholarly work on society."

As members of Pi Mu Epsilon, students will engage in activities to develop their scholarship and leadership with their chosen discipline.
