Selden Student Begins Student Teaching Assignment

Lindsay Huber from Selden, NY, is among 18 Newberry College Teacher Education majors who will begin their student teaching assisgnments this month for the spring 2017 semester. They were honored during Newberry's spring semester Welcome Back chapel service on Jan. 11.

Student teaching gives Newberry's Teacher Education majors the opportunnity to develop their skills and experience prior to graduation through real world interactions with students and teachers within their areas of academic concentration.

For the next 14 weeks, student teachers will wll be working in school districts throughout Newberry and surrounding counties. Huber will serve as a student teacher at Oak Pointe Elementary School.

"As our Teacher Education program continues to grow, we are very excited about our student interns and the progress they have made," said Clinical Placement Coordinator Deborah Poston. "They represent a variety of departments, including music, physical education, early childhood education, elementary education, middle level education and secondary education."

Huber is scheduled to take the Praxis exam, tests used for teacher licensure and certification, on Jan 20, 2017.
