Pasadena Resident Named All-American by Two Publications

Haley Simonds of Pasadena, MD earned the first first team All-American in Newberry softball history, picking up honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association in addition to third team accolades from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.

Simonds was the only South Atlantic Conference student-athlete honored by the NFCA on its first team in a season that has seen her pick up first team all-Southeast Region honors from two publications, selections to the first team in both the SAC and Eastern College Athletic Conference, a SAC Championship all-tournament team nod, and an AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week award.

The freshman designated player had an incredible year at the plate, batting .397 with 50 RBI and 23 extra-base hits for a .743 slugging percentage. Her on-base percentage climbed to .478, good for fifth in the SAC. She finished third in the league in two offensive categories and led Newberry in RBI and with 13 multi-hit games. She will carry an 18-game reached base streak into the 2018 season.
