Herring Named To NCBWA's Preseason All-Southeast Region Second Team

Senior designated hitter Benjamin Herring, a Hopkins, SC native, has receieved another preseason honor, this time from the National Colllegiate Baseball Writers Association. Herring has nabbed a spot on the NCBWA's Preseason All-Southeast Region Second Team.

He preceeds this accolade with South Atlantic Conference Preseason All-Conference first team recognition. Herring led the team and was 12th in the SAC with a .366 batting average in 2017. The junior's .519 slugging percentage led the team and he accumulated 37 RBI's despite not playing in 10 of Newberry's 50 games. He had five games of three or more hits last season, including a team-high three game with four hits apiece.

Newberry will open the 2018 campaign at home against Belmont Abbey on Feb. 2 starting at 5:00 p.m.
