Greenville Student Named Second Team CoSIDA Academic All-America?

The 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Men's At Large Division II Teams have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Newberry College wrestler Lukas Gilmore has earned Second Team Academic All-America honors for the 2016 season.

Gilmore, major, is the 21st Academic All-America in Newberry College history and the second this season. This is the wrestling team's fifth CoSIDA Academic All-America honor to lead all Newberry sports. Seiji Borja (third team in 2013 and 2015) and Jared Holliday (second team in 2014 and 2015) claimed the other four honors for the wrestling team. The wrestling team is the first Newberry team to have an Academica All-America in three straight years.

Gilmore is one of five Division II wreslters to earn Academic All-America honors this year as one of eight Division II wrestlers to earn Academic All-District honors this season.

The 165 lbs. junior from Greenville, Mich., was named first team all-Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Wrestling League and finished the season with a 20-12 record and a perfect 6-0 record in ECAC duals. The regional placer is a first team Division II Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic honoree, carrying a perfect 4.00 grade point average majoring in biology.

Gilmore has been named to the Dean's List in every semester eligible and has earned the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award. The Student-Athlete Advisory Council member has also volunteered at various camps and reading programs in Newberry County.
