Glamorgan Vale Native Essex Named to Second Team All-South Atlantic Conference

Meg Essex, a sophomore from Glamorgan Vale, Queensland, Australia, was a first-team preseason all-conference selection back in early November.

Essex started in 26 games for Newberry this season compiling nearly 400 points, 160 rebounds. Her 71 blocks on the season led the South Atlantic Conference. She averaged 14.8 points per game, 6.2 rebounds per game, and 2.7 blocks per game, improving in every category since the end of last season.

Meg finished the season ranked 12th nationally in blocks per game and was the statistical leader in the conference in the same category. She already sits at second all-time in school history with 150 blocks in her first two seasons.

Essex notched two double-doubles on the season for Newberry including a record-setting performance vs. Coker on Jan. 11. She blocked a South Atlantic Conference record 13 shots, a record which stood for over 25 years.

Essex notched double figures in 22 games on the season, the most on the team. She also finished 5th in the conference in points per 40 minutes with 24.7.
