Forest Resident Named To Wrestling All-Academic Team

Three Newberry College student-athletes have been name Academic All-Americans as selected by the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association.


Trung Duong, a Lynchburg, Va. native, was named All-Academic First-Team. He compiled a 20-3 record this season, pushing his career record to 93-30. Duong is an English & Communications major, and holds a 3.63 overall grade point average.

Cody Brundage, who hails from Chapin, S.C., was named All-Academic First-Team. He compiled a 20-3 record this season, pushing his career record to 93-30. Duong is an English & Communications major, and holds a 3.63 overall grade point average.

Brundage and Duong were two of three Newberry Wrestlers who went to the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships in Birmingham in March.

Nick Young, who is from Goose Creek, S.C., was named All-Academic First-Team. He compiled a 20-3 record this season, pushing his career record to 93-30. Duong is an English & Communications major, and holds a 3.63 overall grade point average.


For a student-athlete to be nominated to the Division II All-Academic Team, he must have a minimum 3.00 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. He must also be in at least his second full year of college, be a varsity member on his team or a key reserve, demonstrate a degree of skill and have a minimum of two letters of recommendation (academic advisor and coach) submitted on his behalf.

The 2016-2017 Division II All-Academic Wrestling Team consists of 186 student-athletes from 47 universities and colleges. Thirty-eight members were named to the first team, 62 members to the second team and 86 were named as honorable mention
